wordpress 2.9 update

WordPress version 2.9 is released today so time to update. There are a few important changes to the content management system and some new user features.

  • Undo/Trash feature – means that if you accidentally delete a post or comment you can bring it back from the grave. This also means you won’t be bothered by all of the “are you sure” pop ups when you try and delete something.
  • Image editor allows you to crop, edit, rotate, flip, and scale your images. WordPress have also said that this is just the first wave of many planned media-handling improvements.
  • Multiple Plugin Updates – Batch plugin update and compatibility checking means that you can now update 10 plugins at once! versus having to do multiple clicks for each one.
  • Easier video embedding – Allows you to just paste a URL on its own line and have it magically turn it into the proper embed code, with Oembed support for YouTube, Daily Motion, Blip.tv, Flickr, Hulu, Viddler, Qik, Revision3, Scribd, Google Video, Photobucket, PollDaddy, and WordPress.tv (more to come in the next release).

So on that note let’s try that last one out and attempt a URL video embed.

You can read the complete list of updates on the WordPress blog.
